Looking for Christmas gift ideas that are a little more meaningful this year? Whether you're shopping for grandparents, new parents or your own family, photographs make wonderful gifts that can be enjoyed for years to come.
As a Kent family photographer, I'm a big believer in printing photographs and making the most of the memories we capture. Here are four photography-inspired gift ideas that go beyond the usual Christmas presents - perfect for the more sentimental family members!
1. Print your favourite family photographs
Hands up if you have thousands of photographs on your phone but hardly any printed ones!
We're constantly taking pictures of family holidays, birthdays, days out and everyday life, but it's easy for those memories to get lost in our camera rolls.
Christmas is the perfect excuse to finally print a few favourites. You could create a photo book of the past year, frame a favourite family portrait or put together a small collection of prints for the grandparents.
A few ideas:
A family photo album: Collect your favourite moments from the year in a beautiful printed book. I use Rosemood as they have easy online templates and are a lovely printed quality.
Framed family photographs: Choose an image that makes you smile and give it pride of place at home. I recommend choosing a frame that complements your home and the image - if you have a simple black and white in a small size, you could go for a fun striped frame to put in the kids room, but if hanging a larger image in your living room, go for something simpler to not detract from the photo itself.
A gift for grandparents: Create a small album or calendar featuring their favourite people.
A Scrap Book for the kids: Children love to make things and gifting their own scrap book and a pile of printed photos from their last year is a lovely way for them to look back on all the fun times they have had.
You don't need to print hundreds of images. Start with ten favourites and see where you get to!
2. Gift a family photography voucher
If you're looking for a thoughtful Christmas gift for a family who has everything, why not give them a family photoshoot to look forward to in the new year?
A family photography gift voucher is a lovely present for new parents, growing families or grandparents who would love updated photographs with their children and grandchildren.
It's also a chance to do something together, rather than simply adding another item to the Christmas pile.
Spring blossom, summer evenings and colourful autumn woodlands all make beautiful backdrops for family photographs. Booking a session for next year means you can choose a season that suits the family and gives everyone something special to look forward to.
My approach to family photography is relaxed and child-led. Rather than worrying about everyone standing still and smiling at the camera, I encourage families to play, explore and enjoy being together. The aim is to capture natural expressions, genuine connections and all those little details that make your family unique. See more of my work here.
If you're looking for a family photographer in Kent, I photograph families around Edenbridge, Sevenoaks, Tunbridge Wells, Oxted and the surrounding Kent and South London areas.

3. Give a gift to a budding young photographer
For children who love taking pictures, a camera of their own can be a brilliant Christmas present.
A simple film camera or child-friendly digital camera lets them capture the world from their perspective, from their favourite toys to family days out and funny moments with siblings. I recommend getting one that is a bit more expensive so it lasts.
4. Turn photographs into personalised Christmas gifts
If you've already had a family photoshoot, don't forget about the photographs sitting in your online gallery.
Professional family photographs make thoughtful, personal presents. Consider a framed print for a grandparent, a photo calendar for the new year or a small album documenting a special family holiday.
When printing professional photographs, always use the original high-resolution download rather than a screenshot or an image saved from social media. And your photographer will often have a professional printer linked to their gallery so I always recommend using that as the quality is far superior to a cheap online printer and trust me you will see the difference!
So whether you print a favourite photograph or gift a family photoshoot for next year, photographs help you hold on to those moments long after they've passed.
